Clinical Services
Diagnostic clarity, structured intervention, and neuropsychological assessment for adults and adolescents.
Neuropsychological Assessment
Neuropsychological assessment examines how the brain is functioning across domains including attention, memory, processing speed, executive function, language, and visuospatial ability. The results answer questions that clinical interviews alone cannot: whether cognitive difficulties are present, how severe they are, what is causing them, and what can be done about them.
Evaluations integrate clinical interviewing, standardized cognitive testing, behavioral observation, and review of relevant records. A written report is provided that translates findings into plain language and includes specific recommendations for treatment, accommodations, or further evaluation.
Common referral questions include:
Testing typically spans one to two sessions depending on the referral question and the individual's stamina. Results are reviewed in a feedback session before the written report is finalized.
Personality & Psychopathology Assessment
Personality and psychopathology assessment uses standardized psychological testing to provide diagnostic clarity when symptoms are complex, overlapping, or treatment has not produced expected results. Testing goes beyond what a clinical interview captures and provides an objective profile of psychological functioning, symptom patterns, and personality structure.
This type of evaluation is useful when a diagnosis is uncertain, when multiple providers have offered conflicting impressions, or when a person wants a comprehensive understanding of how they are wired psychologically. It is also appropriate for treatment planning, medication management decisions, and second opinions.
Instruments used include the MMPI-2-RF, PAI, and Rorschach Performance Assessment System among others, selected based on the referral question. A written report summarizes findings and provides diagnostic impressions with explicit supporting data.
Common referral questions include:
Adolescent Behavioral Assessment
Adolescent behavioral assessment addresses the psychological, emotional, and behavioral concerns that emerge during adolescence and are often misattributed to developmental phase rather than evaluated systematically. Testing provides a clear picture of what is actually driving behavior and what intervention, if any, is warranted.
Evaluations are available for adolescents ages 14 and older. Younger children may be considered on a case by case basis depending on the referral question. A parent or guardian interview is conducted as part of every adolescent evaluation. Findings are reviewed with the adolescent and the family separately to respect the young person's developing autonomy.

Patient PortalFrequently Asked Questions
How long does a clinical evaluation take?
Most neuropsychological and personality evaluations are completed across one or two testing sessions, each lasting two to four hours. Some evaluations require a third session depending on the referral question and the individual's pace. A feedback session is scheduled after testing to review findings before the written report is finalized.
How long does it take to get a report?
Written reports are typically completed within two to three weeks of the final testing session. Complex evaluations or those requiring extensive record review may take longer. Turnaround time is discussed at intake so there are no surprises.
What does an evaluation cost?
Clinical evaluations are priced based on the scope of testing required. Neuropsychological evaluations typically range from $2,500 to $4,500. Personality and psychopathology evaluations typically range from $1,800 to $3,000. Adolescent evaluations are priced within the same ranges depending on the battery required. A detailed fee agreement is provided before any work begins.
Does Waypoint Psychology accept insurance?
No. Waypoint Psychology is private-pay only. This is an intentional decision that preserves clinical independence and ensures each evaluation receives the time it requires without managed care interference. Superbills are available for all clinical evaluations and can be submitted to your insurance carrier for potential out-of-network reimbursement. Many PPO plans reimburse a portion of neuropsychological testing costs.
What is a superbill and how does it work?
A superbill is an itemized receipt that includes the procedure codes and diagnostic codes your insurance carrier needs to process an out-of-network claim. You pay Waypoint Psychology directly, then submit the superbill to your insurance for reimbursement. Reimbursement rates vary by plan. Contact your insurance carrier before scheduling to ask about your out-of-network psychological testing benefits.
What should I bring to my evaluation?
Bring a valid photo ID and any prior evaluation reports, school records, medical records, or other documentation relevant to your referral question. If you are being evaluated for a specific concern such as TBI or a learning disability, records documenting the history of that concern are particularly useful. You do not need to prepare or study. There are no right or wrong answers in psychological testing.
Is telehealth available for clinical evaluations?
Some components of clinical evaluations can be conducted via telehealth, but most standardized cognitive and personality testing requires in-person administration to maintain the validity of the instruments. Initial consultations and feedback sessions can be conducted via telehealth. Testing sessions are conducted in person at the Austin office.
